Regulations and Policies
Some of the core regulations and policies that govern BEN operations are provided below:-
Registration Policy
Attendance Policy - View/Hide Policy
Students on taught programmes must meet the minimum attendance requirement which is 80% attendance per semester. Attendance will be taken daily. Students may often be required to spend more extra hours on the premises to meet the demands of their course work. In certain cases, attendance at lectures and participation in classroom discussions may contribute to your final grades for the module.
Absence from Classes
This is not allowed except in cases of ill health and other emergencies. Students are required to inform the Programme Managers and lecturers promptly of such situations in writing (letter, email, fax). Consistent absence from classes will not be tolerated and students may be asked to provide explanations or face disciplinary action. Please always discuss any difficulties that you may have with your Programme Manager as they may be able to provide practical advice to support you.
We have a 4 step process which we follow where students do not attend without a genuine reason or where they do not inform us of the reason for their absence:
- 1st unauthorised absence from class: - Letter from BEN registry
- Continued absence: - Warning letter sent
- Formal Hearing
- Suspension and/or expulsion
Please observe that there will be no refund of course fees to students who have been suspended or expelled due to poor attendance. It is the responsibility of the individual student to ensure that they meet the minimum attendance requirements.

Grievance and Complaints Procedure - View/Hide Policy
Our policy is to promote and continue to develop an excellent relationship between BEN and our students, so if you experience a personal problem or one related to your study and you feel we can help, then an appointment can be made for you with your tutor or your Programme Manager in order to discuss it.
If you have a grievance about your study, or you wish to raise concerns about issues such as workplace practices, suspicions of criminal acts, equal opportunities, discrimination or health and safety, then you should follow this process. Note, matters dealt with under this procedure will remain confidential.
- Initially speak to your tutor. If the grievance involves your tutor and you feel that you are unable to speak to that person directly, then raise your grievance with the tutor’s with the Programme Manager
- If the grievance is not resolved, then you should state your grievance in writing to the person involved and request a meeting to discuss the matter further.
- All grievances will be dealt with as quickly as is reasonably practicable. However, depending on the nature of the grievance, further information may need to be gathered, which may cause a delay in some cases.
- If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the meeting, then the matter should be raised in writing the Programme Manager or Centre Manager who will then deal personally with any grievance. After due consideration and following a meeting with you, a decision will be made by the Programme Manager.
- You may bring a colleague or friend with you to any of these grievance meetings, as long as you tell us in advance. Where the matter is of serious concern, please put it in writing. This will be communicated to the appropriate authorities for action. You will be communicated to regarding the decisions. You may also include the complaints on the regular end of module questionnaires.
